3000 years old system for irrigation increases sales of bottled water

MEY EDEN Easy-Bar is the smallest 5-gallon bottled water dispenser in the world and the only one to operate on the same principles of irrigation used 3000 years ago.
It works without mechanical taps or electricity, has great accessibility, and a good water flow rate. Research conducted by IGLOO DESIGN STRATEGY found that the size of a dispenser has a decisive influence on motivation to purchase and where the product is placed in the home, from both aesthetic and technical perspectives. The product definition was for the most compact dispenser possible while maintaining a good water flow rate. Since these requirements are mutually exclusive (flow rate is determined by water level) creative thinking was in order.

The solution

IGLOO designers solved the problem with the GreenTap, which makes use of physical laws of nature (communicating vessels). It works by tipping a wider than average below-water-level hose downward to discharge the flow and sliding it back above water level via a spring to stop the flow. The tap is cost-effective, reliable, and easier to clean than mechanical taps that have moving parts and seals. Research, product definition, and design culminated in an innovative product with advantages both for the consumer and the client’s water sales.
